Meet James Thomsen, M.D.
When you see Dr. Thomsen at in the office, you can’t help but notice how quickly he moves through his day, caring for children of all ages and types of issues and challenges. It’s with that determined and steadfast pace of his that assures us that each and every child receives his careful consideration and expertise. As an avid runner, trained specifically for 10K and half marathon venues, Dr. Thomsen knows the value of being able to keep pace with the number of children and families who have walked through the doors at PENTA during the last twenty-eight years. The satisfaction he feels when completing a race is similar to the satisfaction he experiences when able to diagnose a child’s condition that he can ultimately cure, improve or minimize.
Having a personal interest in the art of sound and voice, his talent is not limited to his extraordinary clinical expertise in understanding the science of sound and speech. As a classically trained Tenor, Dr. Thomsen was a member of the Michael O’Neal Singers for more than ten years and most recently sang at his daughter’s wedding in Oregon. And along with his talents, the entire Thomsen family can boast of their cultural pursuits in art, culinary expertise, and languages. Beth, Dr. Thomsen’s wife of 32 years is an art teacher and has been involved in educating children at Atlanta’s Children Museum and other venues throughout the years. Today, she serves as a docent at the High Museum, sharing her knowledge and interests with others. His two daughters have traveled to opposite coasts with his eldest daughter practicing her culinary skills as a chef in Portland, Oregon and his youngest, teaching Spanish in a bilingual charter school in Washington, D. C.
As a family of many talents, it is no surprise that he is such a highly respected pediatric ENT physician in the community. Dr. Thomsen has been recognized by his peers as one of Atlanta’s Top Physicians for many years. He is a fellow with the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, a Specialty Fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his board certification from the American Board of Otolaryngology and serves as the Medical Director for Otolaryngology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
